How does laser hair removal work?
A short pulse of light is realised when the applicator is placed against pre-shaved skin. This produces high heat being absorbed by the melanin in the hair. This heat damages the hair follicle preventing hairs that are in the active growth stage from growing again. These hairs fall out within 1-3 weeks after treatment. A course of treatments is required to treat all the hairs, due to hairs growing in different cycles. The required number of treatments varies per client, usually six or more treatments would be required for maximum results. These are spaced between 4 – 8 weeks apart.
Would I be suitable for treatment?
Most people are suited for treatment, but grey and white hair would not be suitable for laser hair removal as it does not contain melanin. (The hair would need to be darker than the skin to work).
What happens during your treatment time?
You will be greeted and welcomed into our friendly salon and taken to the treatment room.
The area that we are treating will be:
- Cleansed
- Both yourself and the therapist will be wearing protective glasses during the treatment, which is to protect your eyes from the laser.
- During the treatment you will just feel the sensation of the laser being moved back and fourth as it treats the area.
- Redness on the area treated is normal to occur post treatment and a soothing aftercare cream will be applied to calm the area.
- Aftercare advice will be given at the end of your treatment.
Is laser hair removal painful?
No you should not feel pain while having laser hair removal!

We need to target the hair when it is in the active growth stage, therefore we recommend you do not use any of these methods of hair removal for a month before beginning treatment. For the treatment to be effective, the hair needs to be present in the follicle.
Do I need to do anything prior to treatment?
You will need to shave the area being treated within 24 hours prior to your laser hair removal treatment.
How long is the treatment time for laser hair removal?
Treatment time varies depending on the area being treated.
How will the skin feel after treatment?
The area may feel warm but will be cooled down during and after the treatment to ensure you are comfortable. You may experience redness and/or bumps on the skin post treatment but this should subside within a few hours.
Is laser hair removal only to be done in the winter?
No! Laser hair removal can be performed all year round.
REMEMBER...
Do not pluck, tweeze, wax or use hair removal creams for four weeks before treatment. You will need to shave the area the day before your treatment. It is also recommended to use a minimum of SPF 30 for four weeks following treatment.
